Australia’s New Consul-General
A warm welcome to Ms. Wendy Holdenson, the new Consul-General and Trade Commissioner at the Australian Consulate-General in Fukuoka. Wendy is new to Fukuoka, but not to Japan. She was an exchange student in Yamagata, studied at Sophia University and has worked in Japan at Mainichi Shimbun and in Canon Inc’s Corporate Communications, before returning to Australia where she continued her Japan-related career with Mitsui Australia. Wendy says she’s already very impressed with Fukuoka’s seaside, green environment and progressive city planning. She says she’s looking forward to meeting the friendly folk in Fukuoka she’s heard so much of from her predecessors.

Warwick’s duties include providing support in case of an emergency, and he can also provide notarial and certification services for those needing British documentation. T.i.E Seminar
ocal policymakers, venture capitalists and members of the Indian/Pakistani business communities came together to be part of a seminar with representatives of The Indus Entrepreneurs, the world’s largest nonprofit association of entrepreneurs. TiE was a major powerhouse in Silicon Valley’s rise to the status of entrepreneurial Mecca in the early Internet Era. The seminar focused on TiE’s strategies for fostering and mentoring entrepreneurship, and TiE founding member Dr. Kanwal Rekhi spoke about what Japan needs to do to stimulate entrepreneurship in its economy: inspire young people, and then most importantly “step out of their way”. FN was lucky enough to speak to Dr. Rekhi about his work and the lessons Japan can learn both from Silicon Valley and from the Indus region. Full interview online at fukuoka-now.com.
