Burgers Minami Area
After several "research" trips to America during which he claims to have had many three-burger days, owner and proprietor Jogo Yosaku set up his own burger shop in Okinawa in 2002 where he catered to burger-loving US military personnel. The shop was a success, but two years ago Jogo packed up and moved back to his hometown, Fukuoka, and re-opened Burgers in Noma, Minami-ku. The brightly colored American diner is very spacious and appointed with furnishings from the 60s and 70s. Jogo begins every day by mincing the burger meat (100% Japanese beef) by hand. Nothing except a few spices are added to the patties; no eggs, no oats, no fillers. The small size patty is a respectable 80 grams, while the regular weighs in at about 130 grams. There are over a dozen varieties of hamburgers to choose from. Each comes with a serving of chunky Hokkaido fried potatoes and a tangy dill pickle. Currently the Avocado Cheese Burger is most popular, followed by the Hawaiian (cheese, bacon, pineapple), and then the C.O.L.T. (cheese, onion rings, lettuce and tomato). Most burgers are available in manly double sizes. The smoothies and milkshakes are also excellent. The 100% fresh Amaou Strawberry Smoothie and Pistachio Shake are particularly recommended. The closest bus stop is Kamiya-cho, and both Takamiya and Ohashi are a long walk - but if you have a car, enjoy their free parking. Ideal for families!
