Jet Diner Tenjin Area
Daimyo, Fukuoka's mini-Shibuya, is packed with achingly hip fashion stores, restaurants and bars, but where's the beef? Not counting the obligatory KFC it's always been surprising that there's nowhere in Daimyo to grab a quick burger. You guessed it: there is now. Jet Diner, located just off Nishi-dori and opposite Beams serves burgers, hot dogs, onion rings, and ice cream sundaes to eat in or take-out. A sparkling stainless steel exterior, red neon lights and vintage signage make Jet Diner a new style landmark in Daimyo. Great effort has gone into the diner's interior, from the Sputnik lamps to the firetruck-red vinyl booth seats, to the vintage jukebox. The juicy burgers, made with a mix of beef and pork, are freshly cooked to order. The basic hamburger (with fries and coleslaw) is just ¥680, and can be super-sized with an additional patty for an extra ¥200. It's DIY dining when it comes to garnishes, with huge bottles of Heinz Ketchup and French's Mustard at the ready. Pictured is 'Jet Burger Set' (¥950) which features a patty smothered with cheese, topped with an original spicy salsa sauce, French Fries and Coleslaw on the side. In the daytime Jet Diner, with its kitschy, flamboyant interior is an ideal place to relax and enjoy a quick bite. From 9 pm though the atmosphere becomes more like a nightspot, and an excellent spot to enjoy a drink and rendezvous with your equally achingly-hip friends. Not yet available at time of review, Avocado and Teriyaki Burgers are also promised. We're not sure, though, whether the more Japanese-styled "Potato Salad Burger", or the Fish Burger will survive the menu's renewal.
