Kyushu Train Travel Show Wins NHK Award

On Dec. 18, NHK announced the winners of this years NHK Viewer’s Choice awards, and the 50-minute travel documentary “Train Cruise – A Century-Old Railway in Kyushu” won first place in Group F. Voting closed on Dec. 11 with a total of 19,121 votes from 113 countries. The travel documentary ranked 6th overall from a field of sixty. Nick Szasz (Canada), publisher of Fukuoka Now magazine appears in the video as the onscreen navigator and takes viewers on a picturesque journey from Kumamoto City to Kagoshima aboard three historic trains: the “SL Hitoyoshi”, the “Isaburo Shinpei”, and the “Hayato no Kaze”.

Watch the rerun! The show will be rebroadcasted six times beginning on Dec. 29 at 10:10 (Japan time), and then again every four hours (14:10, 18:10, 22:10 on Dec. 29, and 02:10 & 6:10 on Dec. 30).
