Yesterday afternoon the clouds rose and the rain stopped just in time for the opening of “Belgian Beer Weekend” in front of Fukuoka City Hall. The event might be titled “weekend” but in fact it’s on for a full week until Wed., May 21. This is the second year in Fukuoka for the popular event where you can enjoy 47 varieties of Belgian beer, many on draft and others bottled. How to choose your beer? The organizers have thought of that, and a clever color coding system has been used on signage to help you find one to your taste. But it’s not just beer, beer and more beer… this year’s food menu has been greatly expanded. There’s Flemish-style stew with brussel sprouts, several varieties of sausages, marinated herring, chicken brochette, fried shrimp, Brussels style Belgian waffles, and of course, the super-popular Belgian fried potatoes served with mayonnaise! NiXie, a female DJ popular in Belgium’s indie scene rocks out tunes each evening and on May 15, 16 (18:30~) and May 17, 18 (18:00~) “Arsenal” a hugely popular electronic band from Belgium will definitely get the party started! Chances to win a trip to Belgium too!
