Yesterday we dropped by CrossFit Hakata, the first and only CrossFit gym in Kyushu. “CrossFit” – what’s that? It’s described as a highly efficient way to build strength and conditioning, and it’s also a competitive fitness sport. It’s usually practiced in small groups under the guidance and with the encouragement of a trainer. Sessions last one hour including a warm up, a skill development segment, a high-intensity “workout of the day” (or WOD), and stretching. Access the official CrossFit site for more details: http://www.crossfit.com/
Taro and his wife Alex converted a warehouse located about 10 minutes by car from Hakata Station into a spacious gym replete with a fully padded floor and all the CrossFit equipment. The one-hour sessions are offered several times a day with instruction in Japanese and English. Taro became a CrossFit instructor in Thailand where he lived for two years.
CrossFit is really catching on, with over 10,000 accredited gyms worldwide, but just a handful in Japan where it’s just becoming known. CrossFit appeals not only to men, but women and people of all ages. It uses a formulated combination of regular methods and equipment, and is rapidly gaining popularity amongst police, military and amateur and professional athletes. Interested? Drop by and see for yourself. Taro and Alex are keen to give you a demonstration.
