Eggs ‘n Things Halloween Pancakes

To celebrate Halloween, Eggs ‘n Things have concocted a devilishly tasty Halloween-themed pancake. It comes doused in a rich purple sauce, both the colour and the flavour derived from the purple Okinawan imo (sweet potato). The pancake is garnished with a “bloody” raspberry and blueberry sauce and toppings include raspberries and mango. Fukuoka Now went down to Eggs ‘n Things with Fern (NZ) and Laura (UK) to sample the new pancakes. Aesthetically, the pancakes look like something straight from a Dr. Zeuss book; the purple sauce and bloody garnish are effectively shocking and the dish as a whole looks very halloweeny.

Shock-factor aside, the pancakes taste great. They are light and fluffy in texture and the sauces compliment each other nicely, a strong contender with the classic maple syrup pancake.

To complete the Halloween set, you can order the ‘Halloween Special Drink’. It is a striking blue in colour and comes with strawberry sauce in a syringe. Though the colour suggests otherwise, the drink is pleasantly unsweetened and the strawberry sauce gives it a fruity kick that finishes the set off well.

Eggs ‘n Things will be serving the set until Oct. 31 (Mon.) and it’s well worth a visit. Pancakes are ¥1,400 and the drink is ¥550. Share with a friend or get one each if you’re feeling hungry!

Eggs ‘n Things also has an outdoor seating area, with a porch stretching out into the streets of Daimyo. Great for the pleasant autumn evenings!
