Mandarake Tenjin Area
"We want to spread manga around the world" assert the staff at Mandarake, a sprawling used manga (Japanese comics) superstore with six locations throughout Japan and shops in L.A., Italy and China. At the Fukuoka branch you'll find three chock-a-block floors of used manga from sci-fi to teenage romance, crime, medieval sagas and more. Browse for boys manga and trade-ins on 1F, men's adult, vintage and youth manga on 2F, and women's adult and girls manga on 3F. The average manga costs just 200yen, but rare vintage numbers can cost millions. On 4F there's a fabulous selection of manga-related toys, posters and books. Consult the knowledgeable staff if you're looking for something special. Regular karaoke performances are put on by staff in manga costumes. Spend over 1,000yen and you can belt out a song on stage too! No wonder millions of Japanese are manga-obsessed - it's that much fun!
