Art Fair Asia will be holding its first ever show right here, in Fukuoka. Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel, in central Tenjin, will be the venue, as galleries from across Asia send in their premier works. Rather innovatively, they will not be using a hall to showcase their works, but a set of guest rooms, better enabling visitors to envisage the work in their own homes. The city has been chosen because it is the “gateway of Asia”, and was nominated as one of the Ten Most Liveable Cities in Monocle’s 2014 survey. The organisers state that the new Shinkansen has made Fukuoka more accessible and multicultural than ever, and that art is an essential element of any international city. This is, therefore, the perfect time to bring the Art Fair Asia to our fair city. They aim, through their show, to spread “this hotel style art fair throughout the nation and, furthermore, to Asia and all over the world.” The three-day gallery event promises attendees the opportunity to peruse art from all over Asia without ever leaving the city. This is the first time a hotel in Kyushu will be used as the venue for an art event in which many galleries collaborate to show and sell art.
