Enjoy, Learn and Make – Hakata Workshops

Hakata is filled with traditions and techniques that have been passed down through generations. Join workshops held at various venues in the Hakata area (Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Jusen Hall, Hakata Traditional Craft Center and Hakata Machiya Folk Museum). Workshops include Hakata-ori-weaving, Hakata hariko (paper mâché)-painting, wakomono (Japanese accessories)-making, matcha-tasting and Hakata doll-painting. Fees vary between free admission and ¥2,000. There will also be a live Hakata doll-painting demonstration at Yuki Tanaka’s Hakata Ningyo Studio (9-35 Kamikawabata-machi, Hakata-ku) by Hakata dollmaker Yuki Tanaka, where you can also view many of his works on display and paint your own (¥1,000~¥2,000)!
