This traditional festival, which is over 1,200 years old, gives thanks to the gods for the autumn’s harvest. On Oct. 24 (Mon.), an ox-drawn carriage pulls an ornate mikoshi (divine palanquin/portable shrine), while children in traditional kimono, tachi-eboshi (brimless headgear worn by court nobles) and tengan (crowns) walk in parade, starting at Kushida Shrine and weaving around the Hakata area. There will also be other events held during this period incl.: Sentomyo: Oct. 22 (Sat.) and Oct. 23 (Sun.) late-afternoon ~21:00, free amazake (sweet sake): Oct. 23 (Sun.) at 10:00~16:00 and a sumo competition.
