Thirty thousand (55 species) purple and white Japanese irises bloom in the Shobuike Pond during the first two weeks of June, signaling the onset of summer. In the evenings, the pond is illuminated until 9 p.m. and on weekends visitors can enjoy live music by jazz and shinobue (bamboo flute) performers.
