In this annual event, kabuki actors board boats and give a short performance on the river to attract viewers to the theater, where they come ashore; this event is considered to be one of Hakata’s early summer traditions. The procession starts from Seiryu Park and ends at Hakata Riverain. Since this year’s June Grand Kabuki includes the first public performances of Nakamura Jakuemon V since inheriting his father’s stage name, many visitors are expected to attend and cheer for him. Don’t miss the sight of cheering crowds, traditional music, showers of blossoms and proud kabuki actors processing down the river!
