Celebrated across Japan, Setsubun marks the beginning of spring with a ritual in which people throw beans at masked demons and chant, “Out with demons! In with luck!”. On the hour starting at 11:00 and ending at 18:00, the bean-throwing is started with a ritual in which reed arrows are fired from a peach-wood bow.
