Fukuoka City has created a replica of the “Koinmeitachi” sword that was excavated in 2011 from the Motooka Kofun (ancient burial mound) in Nishi-ku. The replica will be on display with the original item. The original sword, which is 75cm in length, was discovered within the grounds of Kyushu University’s Ito Campus. It is believed to be made in 570 AD and features gold inlaid decorations as well as 19 characters engraved into the back part of the blade. The reproduction project cost about ¥1.8 million.
