Approximately one-hundred-and-fifty works of the late Takashima Yajuro are being exhibited in his hometown. Unknown during his time, Takashima Yajuro (1890~1975) was a Japanese oil painter from Kurume, Fukuoka. The painter and his works only rose to fame five years after his death, after one of his paintings was exhibited in 1980. The exhibition will include representative works such as ‘Candles’ and ‘Moon’, paintings that have yet to be showcased in Japan, and some of Yajuro’s valuable documents, including notes, letters and sketches from his days as a student. The Kyushu Geibunkan is closed every Monday, excluding 9/19 (Mon.) which is a national holiday (they will close the following day instead: 9/20, Tue.).
