Yame Shincha Fair

START: May 3, 2016 END: May 5, 2016

Enjoy authentic, freshly picked Japanese tea at this special event in Hoshinomura, Yame, which is famous for its high-quality tea. The Tea Cultural Center there exhibits tea-brewing utensils and teaches visitors about the history of tea. To celebrate both Golden Week and it being tea-harvesting season, the center will host a number of workshops. If you visit between May 3 and May 5, you can try your hand at roasting tea leaves in an iron frying pan – you can then take home your roasted tea to enjoy at your leisure (¥500/person, 50 g)! Also from May 3 to 5, you can take the “Tea-Tasting Challenge” – taste five different kinds of tea and try to guess what type you’re drinking. Every participant receives a free small gift (¥500/person). On May 3 and on May 5 (not May 4), you can try making seasonal Japanese confectionery (¥500/person, 1 per person). Confectionery classes run at 10:30~, 11:00~, 11:30~, 12:00~, 13:30~, 14:00~, 14:30~ and 15:00~. This is sure to be a tea-riffic day out for all the family!
