February 2017 Fukuoka Now

It’s all about islands this month, as we feature five of Kyushu’s islands, all replete with nature and adventure and with direct connections to Fukuoka. February is the month of freshly brewed sake, and our cover story introduces Jojima-machi, where nine breweries will participate in the annual Sake Barrel Opening Festival. This month we introduce the incredibly hip Stereo Coffee, where you can spend an afternoon listening to a curated selection of tunes by owner/DJ Yusuke Watanabe. Our bar pick is Kotani Saketen, a Daimyo-based kakuuchi: a liquor shop that lets you drink what you’ve bought in store. Love ramen but tired of tonkotsu? Then check out Mendo Hanamokoshi, where you can sample the delight that is chicken ramen. Then there’s Ishidobashi Shiratsugu, which offers carefully prepared seasonal delights, giving you the full washoku experience. As usual, the mag is jam packed with the usual events to make your February a great one! Enjoy!
