October marks the start of Autumn proper and one of the most pleasant seasons in Fukuoka. The significance of the changing season isn’t lost to the Japanese and, throughout Autumn, Fukuokans can be seen enjoying themselves at one of the many colourful festivals in Hakata that make up Akihaku. Head to our trivia page to find out more about some unique historical and cultural spots in Hakata that tell the area’s story. Feeling peckish? Then check out our Food & Drink pages, which showcase some of Fukuoka’s best cafes and restaurants. Our gourmet pick this month is Kaiboku, where owner-chef Kenji Okabayashi offers exquisite Japanese meals crafted from seasonal ingredients. They recently opened a takeaway shop for their famous dashi inari (tofu-wrapped rice pockets) – a must try! For another classic, read up on Mentaiju, where you can eat mentaiko, a Fukuokan delicacy, for breakfast. As usual, your helping of all the latest news and events can be found up on the Fukuoka Now website. Want to get involved? Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and let us know what you think!
