If you like pizza and Danish design, look no further than Gorm’s, a new pizzeria that opened this April in Yakuin. The owner, interior shop proprietor Seiichiro Iwamura, travels to Denmark several times a year. There he met Gorm Wisweh at his eponymous pizzeria, and the two struck up a friendship that led to the opening of the Fukuoka shop. What impressed Iwamura the most about Denmark was its comfortable yet refined atmosphere. Although he got his start in the imported furniture business, he says he wanted to share his love of Denmark through food. At Gorm’s, the floor plan evokes a sense of relaxation. Every nook and cranny is decorated with interesting display items, and tasteful music plays in the background. The menu is replete with Gorm’s original Italian pizzas and unique Scandinavian fusion cuisine, including several dishes flavored with dill, an herb frequently used in northern European cooking. You can also enjoy a selection of wines chosen by a famous sommelier or stop by for a cup of Kontra coffee, a Copenhagen cafe co-owned by a World Barista Champion, on the wooden deck.
