June 2018 Fukuoka Now

We enjoyed fine weather in Fukuoka this spring, but now it’s time to welcome in the summer season. So to help you enjoy it too, we’ve updated three of our most popular guides: the Fukuoka Firefly Watching Guide (yes, that’s a thing here!), our Hydrangea Viewing Guide, and our Fukuoka Beach Guide. Have you tried Hakata Wagyu? It’s a local brand of beef that is building a name for itself nationwide and you can try it at Meijiya Komondo near Hotel Okura. Goenya Tenjin’s specialty is tsukemen (dipping noodles), and it’s our recommended noodle shop this month. Then, located on the tree-lined Keyaki Avenue is &Locals, a shop that showcases a selection of products from rural Kyushu. They also serve tea and four kinds of inari sushi. A mojito tastes great anytime of year, but never as good as on a hot summer night, and The Bar Mojito Kotenmon in Otemon is a quiet and chilled pace to enjoy an excellent one. As usual, there are tons of events taking place in town, including kabuki at Hakataza.
