Apaman will launch a bicycle sharing service called “Ecobike” in Fukuoka from May. The real estate company will work with OpenStreet to introduce 500 bicycles to the city this summer. The companies plan to introduce 150 to 200 parking locations throughout Fukuoka and will charge cyclists ¥60 for 15 minutes. Customers will be able to use the bikes once they have scanned a panel attached to the handlebars by using an app on their smartphone. Yahoo! recently acquired a majority stake in SoftBank’s OpenStreet. This means that cyclists will be able to use their Yahoo! membership to pay for the rental service.
