Approximately 300 staff working for Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture and Hita City, Oita Prefecture worked over 100 hours of overtime in July 2017. On average, staff in charge of disaster prevention at the two cities, which were badly affected by the torrential downpours that hit northern Kyushu last summer, worked up to 240 hours across the month. Some Hita City employees worked for approximately 310 hours during the same period. The cities aim to employ new staff and produce reference materials that can be used during times of disaster in order to share the burden placed on staff. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 3/8/2018
