Cat Installation Named “Nyapy”

A name was chosen for the enormous cat installation outside the WeBase Hakata hostel entrance. Local children were asked to suggest names of the three meter tall guardian cat, a sculpture created by Kyoto University of Art and Design Professor Kenji Yanobe. The hostel decided on the name Nyapy, a suggestion that came from an eight year old elementary school student. A special ceremony was held on September 18 to celebrate the occasion. Mr. Yanabe spoke about his happiness with the news, stating that he felt that the cat now really belongs to Hakata. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun, 9/19/2017
