Chikushino Announces Gyokusui, a New Brand of Pear

Fukuoka Agriculture and Forestry Research Center in Chikushino City announced the development of a new brand of pear, Gyokusui. This is the first pear to have been developed in the prefecture. Gyokusui has an enhanced sweetness and grows faster compared to the conventional pear brands. The prefecture spent five years developing the fruit and now hopes to bring the fruit to market by 2022. Seedlings of Gyokusui trees will be planted by farmers in the prefecture from fall of this year. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture
