City Hall Lobby Renovation
Fukuoka City is renovating the citizen’s lobby on City Hall’s first floor, where citizens and non-local tourists of can get city info on the city. There will be digital signage with various information and event updates, a public wireless LAN, a café with terminals for tourism info searches of tourism information, and a site for small events. Visitors also can use the old information plaza and Tenjin certification service area. The site will be ready in late April. Tel.: (092) 711-4173

Put out the Trash When You Move
March is the moving season! Remember the three ways to deal with trash. (1) Put out trash on the designated collection days. For large items, call the center responsible, at 092-731-1153 (fee and booking/fee required). Air conditioners, TVs, fridges, washing machines, and dryers ing machines are excluded. (2) Apply in advance by calling 092-433-8234 and take trash to designated locations. The charge is ¥140 for up to 10 kilograms. Hakata Dontaku Special Seats
Special seats for viewing the Hakata Dontaku Minato Matsuri on (May 3, 4) go on sale March 1 at the main Playguide sites in the city for ¥1,500. The seats will be located at Nishinakasu’s Suijyo Park. A Tickets are for events from 13:00 to 15:30 on May 3, B Tickets are for 16:10 to 18:30 on May 3, and C Tickets are for 15:00 to 19:30 on May 4. Shikanoshima Historical Sites Tour
Starting March 17, a 6-kilometer guided walking tour will be offered starting March 17 of Shikanoshima’s historical sites will be offered, including the Shikaumi Shinto shrine, the Kaien burial mound and Shiomi Park. Assembly for the Tour meeting point is at the Shikanoshima Ferry Pier in Higashi-ku. Those interested must be of primary school age or older and be able to speak Japanese (Primary school students should be accompanied. Tour capacity is 30 people. Seat limited to 30 people each), and send a fax 092-215-3913, e-mail (info@greencity-f.org), or postcard to Green City Fukuoka at 4-5-202 Yakuin, Chuo-ku with participants’ names, telephone numbers, addresses with zip codes, and ages.

Fukuoka Castle Site Tour
Here’s the chance to enjoy the famed sakura at Maizuru Park, located on the site of the old Fukuoka Castle, as well as the interior of the historical structure itself. Tours will be held on Mar. 24 and 25, and Apr. 1, 7, and 8. Anyone of primary school age or older can join for ¥300 (Free for primary school students. Primary school students should be accompanied. Tour capacity is 30 people. Seat limited to 30 people each). To sign up, send a return postcard by March 12 to the Fukuoka Historical Visit Guide office at 3-22-13 Jigyo, Chuo-ku, with the names, telephone numbers, addresses with postal code, and ages of all participants.

Fukuoka Sakura Festival

A sakura festival will be held at Fukuoka Castle Ruins inside Maizuru Park from Mar. 24 to Apr. 8. 1,000 sakura will be lit up at night time and various events will be held. Details should be checked at this website. saku-hana.jp/
