In November, Nishi Nihon Railway announced the new model ‘9000’ train. The train will start trial runs in Jan. 2017, before it enters regular service on the Tenjin-Omuta Line in March. The new model will be the first new model in 11 years. The last new model of train was the ‘3000’ which began service in 2006. The body of the new train is made from stainless steel and is significantly lighter than previous models. The new train will use about half of the electricity used by the ‘5000’ model that is currently in most frequent use. Information in English and Chinese will be displayed above the doors.
