Decrease in Cruise Ships Using Kyushu Ports

Preliminary statistics released by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Kyushu Regional Development Bureau have revealed that a total of 106 cruise ships called at ports that fall under Kyushu’s jurisdiction during April 2018, which is a decrease of 7.8% compared to last year. The first four months of the year saw 275 liners stop at Kyushu ports. This represents an 11% drop from the same period in 2017. However, the figure is still higher than the 177 luxury vessels that used port facilities in Kyushu from January to April in 2016. April also saw the Royal Caribbean International’s MS Quantum of the Seas cruiser stop at Shimonoseki Port for the first time. Noble Caledonia’s flag ship vessel, the MS Caledonian Sky, made its first trip to Sasebo Port during the same month. Source: Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Press Release, 5/22/2018
