Given the recent earthquakes in Kumamoto and Oita, it has been announced that the official slogan of Hakata Dontaku 2016 will be “Dontaku With the Kyushu: For Kumamoto and Oita”; Kyushu’s biggest festival will be used a a platform to fundraise for the victims of the Kumamoto and Oita earthquakes. You can donate money to the cause at seven information centers and five Dontaku stages, including the main stage at City Hall and on “Dontaku Street” (the main parade route), as well as at the pre-event festivities on May 2. Nobori (flags) including the new slogan will be displayed by the Dontaku stages and along Dontaku Street; groups performing in the parades can request one of these nobori. Many people in Kyushu will also participate in the event; the slogan aims to unite Kyushu in helping the victims of the Kumamoto and Oita earthquakes. Source: Dontaku press release, 4/22
