Foreign Visitors to Kyushu to Reach Record High in 2016

The number of foreign visitors to Kyushu between January and October 2016 was higher than the total number number of visitors to Kyushu in all 2015. According to the Kyushu District Transport Bureau, the number of foreign visitors to Kyushu between Jan. and Oct. of this year was over 2,920,000. The total number of visitors to Kyushu in 2015 set the previous record at 2,830,000. This year the number is expected to exceed 3 million. According to the Kyushu District Transport Bureau, though there was a dip due to the Kumamoto earthquake, new LCC routes helped to increase tourists numbers, especially from Korea and Hong Kong. However, not fewer tourists have travelled to the Aso region and other earthquake affected areas. The Bureau hopes to rectify this in the future. Source: RKB News, Dec. 8, 2016
