Fukuoka City Considering New Accommodation Tax

The Fukuoka City local government is considering the introduction of a new accommodation tax later this year. The levy will be aimed at visitors staying in local accommodation facilities in order to provide resources to promote tourism and help deal with illegal private residences temporarily taking in lodgers. A similar tax has been introduced in Tokyo and Osaka. The prefecture and city will work together to avoid the implementation of a double taxation. A group within city council plans to floor the bill in September. Source: TNC, 5/11/2018
