Fukuoka City has put more funding into their Bench Project. This initiative was established last year with the aim of increasing the number of benches in the city. The local government has doubled the maximum subsidy available for installing benches to ¥100,000. In 2017, a total of 104 benches were set up in collaboration with Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co., Ltd., (Nishitetsu) at 58 locations near bus stops and along bus routes in order to help elderly members of society. Plans are now in place to install more benches throughout the city. Source: Sankei Shimbun, 6/22
