On Dec. 1, new laws regarding minpaku – short-term rentals of private accomodation to paying guests – came into force. The Fukuoka City rules permit residential and minpaku accommodation to be in the same building, as long as all relevant permissions are given by the building owners/managers. Other rules include:
• If there is no front desk, a maximum of 10 people are allowed to stay in one building.
• Unlike hotels, there is no requirement to maintain a front desk. Instead, there must be a management office within 10 minutes walk of the facility.
• Keys need to be handed over in person.
• Manuals need to be placed in each accommodation.
• A security camera must be installed in front of the entrance of each accommodation.
On the first day the system came into place, Fukuoka City received two applications and 22 inquiries about the new system. Source: TNC-TV, Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016
