Fukuoka City signed an agreement with four major travel agencies (JTB Kyushu, Nippon Travel Agency Co., Ltd., Kinki Nippon Tourist Co., Ltd., and Nishitetsu Travel Co., Ltd.) to ensure accommodation for workers assisting with restoration work in disaster hit areas. The agreement comes after Fukuoka City’s experience in 2016. Following the Kumamoto earthquakes, the city sent officials to help affected areas, but struggled to secure lodging for them. Officials hope to avoid this kind of situation in the future by working with major travel agencies that have access to information about accommodation facilities. Source: Sankei Shimbun, 1/31/2018
