Fukuoka Kindergartens to Start Accepting Preschoolers

Starting in August this year, six kindergartens inside Fukuoka City will start childcare projects for kids as young as two-years-old. Kindergartens usually accept students from the age of three, however the city is encouraging private kindergartens to take in two-year-old children to help reduce waiting lists. The participating kindergartens will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. A budget of approximately ¥100 million is being set aside to help subsidize the number of teachers needed to cover the project. Mayor Soichiro Takeshima noted that the initiative aims to take advantage of existing kindergartens rather than build new facilities. Source: NHK News Web, 6/27/2018
