Fukuoka Prefecture Plans to Make After-School Clubs Free for Lower Income Families

Fukuoka Pref. is planning to make ‘gakudo’ after-school children’s clubs free of charge for lower income families from April 2017. It is hoped this will encourage the development of underprivileged children as well as parents who work after school hours. In Fukuoka Pref., the number of gakudo users has increased in recent years but some parents find the clubs too expensive. In Oita and Nagasaki, lower income families pay a reduced fee for the service. Source: Fukuu, Jan. 7, 2017
