Fundokin Shoyu (Usuki City, Oita), in cooperation with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU, Beppu City), is working on producing shoyu (soy sauce) that meets Halal food criteria without using alcohol. Fundokin Shoyu conducted surveys with Muslim foreign students for their opinions on shoyu taste, packaging design, and more. The company also plans to export the products in the future to Islamic countries, mostly in Southeast Asia. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 5/1/2017
