Kyushu Electric Power Company (Kyuden) announced on October 10 that commercial operations have begun on a new unit at a huge geothermal power plant in the Sarulla area of Sumatra, Indonesia. Commercial operations on the second reactor, which has a 108,700 kilowatt output, officially started on October 2. The energy generated will be sold back to the Indonesian state-owned power company. Kyuden has a 25% investment into the Sarulla Project, one of the world’s biggest geothermal projects, along with Itochu Corporation and other companies including Medco Power Indonesia, INPEX Corporation and Ormat Technologies. Operations on the power plant’s first 105,900 kilowatt reactor started in March of this year. Plans are now in place for the third reactor, which will have a 107,500 kilowatt output, to be up and running by March 2018. Source: Sankei West, 10/10/2017
