On Oct. 1, the Ishibashi Museum of Art in Kurume changed its name to the Kurume City Art Museum. The name change occurred because management of the museum has been transferred from the Ishibashi Foundation (based in Tokyo) to Kurume city. As a result, some of the main pieces of art by artists such as Shigeru Aoki, Hanjiro Sakamoto and Harue Koga will be moved to the Bridgestone Museum of Art in Tokyo. The Kurume City Art Museum was built and donated to Kurume city by Shojiro Ishibashi, the founder of Bridgestone Tires in 1956. The Ishibashi Foundation has been managing the museum since 1977.
