Nanchiku, a meat producer and distributor based in Soo City, Kagoshima Prefecture, has began exporting Japanese beef to Australia. Following a BSE outbreak in September 2001, the Australian government discontinued importing beef from Japan. However, Nanchiku resumed exports after the two countries reached an agreement in May of this year. The company exported approximately 214 kg of Kagoshima Kuroge Wagyu sirloin and boned rib cuts on July 5 via Fukuoka Airport. Kagoshima Governor Satoshi Mitazono attended a ceremony on the day to mark the occasion. The president of Nanchiku spoke about the company’s desire to promote Kagoshima Kuroge Wagyu and show Australian consumers the quality of Wagyu beef. The company also exports meat to Hong Kong and to the United States. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun, 7/6/2018
