Kyushu Electric Power is likely to close two of its thermal power plants using oil in Oita City, the Nishinippon Shimbun reported. The utility will begin preparations to shut the plants down in FY 2010, and cease operation in FY 2012. Kyushu Electric is now in talks with local government officials. There are no plans at present for the use of the site after they are discontinued.
