Luxury Hotel Chains Reportedly Interested in the Former Daimyo Elementary School Site

Fukuoka City held a briefing session on Nov. 10 for businesses interested in redeveloping the site of the former Daimyo Elementary School. The deadline for entries from the private sector is Dec. 12. Applicants will be evaluated by a committee that will consult with experts in the field before offering the selected business first refusal rights in March 2018. The Tenjin Big Bang Project has been heavily involved in redevelopment efforts, which have seen planning regulations relaxed in order to try and attract private investment. The possibility of a luxury hotel being built on the site has been discussed recently, some reports suggesting that Marriott International, Inc. are considering to submit a proposal.
