New JR Train Station to Open in Itoshima

JR Kyushu announced on May 30 that their new station in Itoshima City, to be located between Chikuzen-Maebaru and Hatae stations, will be called Itoshima Koko-mae. This will be JR Kyushu’s first station to have the word Itoshima at the start of its name. The 420 square meter two-story station building will cost approximately ¥940 million and feature four elevators to help with accessibility. There are also plans to carry out construction work on the plaza in front of the station and the road leading up to the facility. In total, the project will cost an estimated ¥2.5 billion and will be open for public use in the spring of 2019. Developers believe that 2,314 people will use the station every day and that the facility will prove particularly popular with students at Fukuoka Prefectural Itoshima High School. The president of JR Kyushu wants Itoshima Koko-mae to be a modern, user-friendly station that will be loved by locals. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 5/31/2018
