A new multi-complex featuring outdoor hot springs, restaurants, and retail stores is set to open as part of the redevelopment of the Mojiko Retro district. A former warehouse which faces towards the Kanmon Straits will be used for the project. The two-floor facility will span 5,600 square meters and is expected to cost approximately ¥1.1 billion. A retail estate business based in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture expressed an interest in the plot during the recent bidding process. The number of tourists visiting Mojiko Retro reached approximately 2.18 million during 2016. Kitakyushu City expects to welcome longer term visitors in the future as they aim to improve the image of the local area. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun, 5/22/2018
