Since the new road surface was laid over the Hakata sinkhole, it was found to have subsided by 6.9cm. The road was temporarily closed for safety checks on the morning of Nov. 26, but opened again at 5:30. Fukuoka City says the subsidence was caused by the soil compacting beneath the road and they do not expect any further subsidence. However, they are continuing to monitor the situation. The City is also conducting emergency inspections at all subway stations on the Kuko and Hakozaki lines. Source: Fukuoka City, Nov.27, 2016
