On Feb. 3, Nishinippon Railroad Co. (Nishitetsu) announced plans to add new 9000-series train cars on its Tenjin-Omuta Line next March. The new train cars will be silver with royal red stripes, and they will use 50% less electricity due to their lightweight construction and advances in power control equipment. Nishitetsu plans to add 18 new cars between March and May of next year as they gradually phase out their 5000-series cars. The new cars will be Nishitetsu’s first new additions to its livery in 11 years. Source: Nishitetsu press release, 2/4
