Record Number of Tourists Visiting Kyushu

The Kyushu District Transport Bureau revealed that the region welcomed 4.8 million overseas visitors last year. The preliminary figures, which were released on February, do not include cruise ship statistics for December 2017, but still represent a significant increase on the 3.72 million that visited Kyushu in 2016. The surge in Korean tourists traveling to Japan on low cost airlines is a major factor in the rise. There was also a significant number of visitors from Taiwan and China. The Transport Bureau is looking at ways to attract tourists from Europe and North America. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 2/7/2018
