Recruitment Rate for New Graduates at New All Time High

The recruitment rate of new graduates is at an all time high. As of Oct. 1, 75.2% of university students who are scheduled to graduate next March have already received informal job offers. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare surveyed approx. 4,800 students across 62 universities throughout the country. The rate of students receiving job offers is up four points on last year and the highest it has been since the survey started in 1996. The figure for Kyushu and Okinawa is currently at 68.7%, a remarkable 7.1 point increase compared to last year. Ministry officials have noted that the statistics suggest the economy is picking up, and that companies are on the hunt to secure workers amidst recent labor shortages, which has allowed students to complete their job hunting activities earlier than usual.
