Runway Expansion Proposals for Fukuoka

Proposals have been put forward to change existing plans to expand the runway at Fukuoka Airport. A second runway for departing aircrafts is scheduled for construction in 2025. However, a local consortium that will take charge of managing the airport next year has asked the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for permission to also use the new runway for planes arriving to Fukuoka, which would dramatically increase the number of aircrafts using the facility. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will listen to the views of officials from Kurume City and other surrounding municipalities before making their final decision.
