Semiconductor Production Picking Up

Signs of an uptick in semiconductor production are appearing. Production has fallen since the start of the global economic turndown two years ago, but demand is rising for semiconductors in China and other newly developing countries to be used in such items as cell phones and digital cameras. Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and Kyocera are expanding their production facilities in the region. While this is not expected to lead to greater employment at those companies, it will benefit the roughly 700 regional companies involved with semiconductors in such areas as maintenance and repair of production equipment.
